Our text for the sermon was Matthew 6:1-18 where Jesus further explains how his followers were to exceed the righteousness of the Pharisees especially around giving, prayer and fasting. The primary point Jesus makes, is that there is no place for religious performance in the life of a follower of Christ. Rather, disciples of Jesus are to give, pray and fast in a concealed way that does not draw attention to themselves. They are to practice communion with God in a quiet, confident and dependent manner that trusts that God is with them.
So for us, keep your giving, prayer and other spiritual disciplines simple and to the point because is already with you in them. He is the reward for our devotion. Amen
